Gary William Flinders

August 7, 1936 ~ June 25, 2015

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Gary William Flinders, 78, passed away at his home in the early morning hours of Thursday, June 25, 2015 with his loving wife Sharon near his side.  He was born on August 7, 1936 in Ogden Utah, the son of Hyrum R. and Doris Betteridge Flinders.

Gary married Sharon Wayment on September 14, 1956 in Ogden, Utah.  Gary and Sharon spent nearly 59 wonderful years together.

He graduated Weber High School and worked as a Data Processer at Hill Air Force Base for 32 years until his retirement.  After retirement, he started his second career mowing putting greens for The Barn Golf Club for nearly 20 years.  He served several years in the 222nd Field Artillery, Utah National Guard and graduated jump school from Fort Benning, Georgia.

When Gary was young he enjoyed playing baseball and bowling.  He also enjoyed hunting with his brothers and dad in Grouse Creek, Utah.  But his favorite past time was golfing with his family and friends.

Gary is survived by his wife, Sharon; son, Kevin (Mary Ann) Flinders; grandchildren, Carissa Ann Flinders and Robby Facer; brothers, James B. (Shauna) Flinders and Robert L. (Linda) Flinders; sisters, Mary Beth (Dave) Clement and Coy Ann (Barry) Kendall. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd.  Friends will meet family on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.
