Gary S Flint

August 17, 1941 — July 29, 2024

Hooper

Gary Stoddard Flint was born August 17, 1941 to Irene Stoddard and Joseph Manning Flint in Ogden, Utah. He attended Burch Creek Elementary, South Ogden Jr High, and Weber High School, attending just often enough to allow him a centerfield spot on the baseball team. Gary was an avid outdoorsman from a young age, carrying a toy pistol and sling shot. His mom could always find him out “hunting” around Burch Creek in South Ogden.

In 1960, Gary married Vivien Henrie. He always said he wanted three little girls, and he got them! Shellie (Clint) Naisbitt, Lezlie (Rick) Rogers and Debbie (Jeff) Cox. Gary and Vivien later divorced.

For many years he was in bowling leagues, bowling with his mom as a teammate.

Gary worked at Wonder Bread Bakery as a baker for 20 years. Every day off you could find him and his family camping in the mountains. He loved archery, camping, hunting & fishing in many mountains, lakes and rivers.

Gary married Marylyn D’Hulst on November 7, 1980 in Las Vegas. They made their home in Hooper, where they hosted many holiday parties and backyard BBQ’s on their patio. Her children are Dana Lyn (Jess) Sharkey, Daniel D’Hulst Jr., Natalie (Lynn) Dearden, Madeliene D’ Hulst (deceased), Charles (Laura) D’Hulst, and Todd D’Hulst (deceased).

Gary went to work at Hill Air Force Base, working in aircraft maintenance, and “playing cards”.

The gun clubs he belonged to were a huge part of his life, black powder, mountain man rendezvous, silhouette, and cowboy shoots. Gary enjoyed crafting his own ammunition for pistols, rifles, and shotguns, along with building his own arrows. You could find him shooting in tournaments on any given weekend, with Mary reading in her chair alongside him. For 42 years you would very rarely see one without the other, it was always Gary and Mary. They enjoyed socializing and spending time with their Tuesday night “Gang”.

They loved to attend their grandkids' ball games and school events. With Gary’s 13 grandkids and 33 great-grandkids in Utah and Idaho, supporting them was no small feat. Gary was loyal to his family and showed his love by cheering from the stands or by camping in the mountains. He & Mary lived life to the fullest, camping often and traveling to Alaska. He took great care of Mary until her death on April 7, 2023.

Gary passed away quickly at his home on July 29, 2024. The family would like to thank the first responders for their kindness and compassion at the end. We would also like to thank the Lakeview Ward for their support and love.
