Gary F. “Grizz” Grant

August 27, 1954-October 3, 2017

Our gentle grizzly bear is roaming in greener mountains after courageously fighting esophageal cancer for two valiant years. Gary was born to Barbara M. Brown and Charles J. “Red” Grant in Ogden, Utah. He was gifted a brother, Charles Reed Grant, four years later. He found the love of his life, best friend and caretaker, KayLynn Evans and asked her to be his bride. They were married on June 27, 1974. They solemnized their marriage in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity one year later. Their union was blessed with five children which brought them much pride and joy.

Gary was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a wonderful role model with a strong testimony of the Gospel and the Atonement. He enjoyed doing genealogy and learning more of his ancestry. He served in many capacities in the church and served them faithfully.

He attended schools in Weber County. He was active in many sports but rodeo was his favorite. He made many friends, was part of a large rodeo family and had his own fan club. He participated in every event, enjoyed team roping in his later years and eventually retired as a pick-up man for Broken Heart Rodeo Co. Gary mentored many fine and talented cowboys and cowgirls and they all loved his charismatic personality. He was always willing to push a calf, teach a queen clinic, pull a bull rope, or put himself in danger to help a hung up cowboy. He was a Golden Spike High School Rodeo President, Spiker’s Rodeo Advisor, local FFA President, and a member of USHRA, WSTRA, USTRC, and Golden Spike Mule Assoc. He won many awards, buckles and saddles over the years.

He lived for hunting and fishing with his friends and family, especially with his grandkids, in his eyes they were EVERYTHING! Being in the great outdoors, camping, hunting, and fishing with his family and friends made some of his fondest memories. The kids and grandkids loved to hear about his grand adventures and oh the stories he’d tell. He was a great hunting guide and made sure that his family had a great love and respect for the wilderness too.

Gary was a hard worker and provided for his family well, working at Grant Fabrication, Peterson Bros. Herfords, self-employed drywaller, and worked at Hill Air Force Base for 25 years before retiring and moving to Cowley, Wyoming in 2007. He and his beautiful bride built the home of their dreams on 35 acres. They have made many new friendships there, but still call Hooper, Utah home. They resided in Hooper for 30+ years and enjoyed bringing up their family in the small farming community.

He loved serving, teasing and surprising others. He played the role of jolly old Santa very well and played it out to the fullest making and buying everyone Christmas gifts. This brought him much happiness in his life.

Survived by his wife, five children and their spouses, Kelly (Brandon) Smith, Sami Grant, Francie (Glenn) Thompson, Gary S. (Dez) Grant, Sky (Christen) Grant, 17 grandchildren; Sierra,Hunter, Savana, Braden, Bailey, Brittney, Michael, Zakaria, Samantha, Clayton, Cache, Gary T., Ty, Gracee, Ryan and Jace; 4 great grandchildren, Jax, Coy, Levi and Tucker and one on the way, his mother and step-father Barbara M. Grant & Larry Crezee, brother Reed (Marren) Grant, step-siblings Brad Crezee and Christy Spector; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Susan (Steve) Morlock, Noaleen “Bo” (Hugh) Holman, Brent Bitton, Todd (Dana) Evans, Connie (Bryan) Malone, Cheri (Kelly) Goss, Heidi (Judd) Kendall, and a whole herd of nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by his father, grandson, Tristan, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Grace Mecham and Noal T. Evans, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Cindy K. Bitton and Scott M. Evans, his grandparents and many other ancestors that will be there to greet him happily with open arms on the other side.

Families Are Forever

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Billings Clinic, North Big Horn Hospital, West Park Hospital, Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah Hospital and Air Med who cared so well for Gary during his last trial here on earth.

Wyoming viewing services will be held in Cowley on Friday, October 6 from 5- 7 pm at the Cowley LDS Church, 52 Main Street.

Utah service viewing on Sunday, October 8 from 5-7 pm and Monday, October 9 from 9:45-10:45 am with funeral services at 11 am at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 W. 5600 S. Roy.
