Gary Hales passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at his home in Warren-Blossom, Utah from Kidney failure. He was born on October 29, 1934 to Fern Hipwell and Orval Hales in Ogden, Utah. Gary was raised by his mother Fern Hipwell and Ernest P. Hogge residing in Plain City. He graduated from Weber High School in 1952.

Gary married Carolyn Thompson on February 11, 1954. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. We are very blessed to have had him in our lives for 83 years. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

Dad believed in hard work and in providing for his family. He retired as General Manager of Bona Vista and worked there for 43 years, while owning and operating Hales Roofing Company for 25 of those years.  He was currently serving as President of Warren Cemetery and was a member of the Board for 43 years. He was also a member of American Water Works Association.

Gary loved and excelled at sports, playing Farm Bureau baseball from 1952 to 1972, he played and coached the Warren Ward All-Church teams. He also enjoyed golfing with his buddies and a good game of cards, above all else he loved and supported his family.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings including being a faithful home teacher.

Gary is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn; his children, Terry Hales, Jeffrey and Cathy Hales, Sheryl and Chad Costley, Brenda Hales, Gregory and Kim Hales, and Heidi and Dave Wade; 22 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; and by his brother, Kenny and Renee Hogge. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ronald Hogge and sister, Marilyn Nelson.

The family wishes to express profound gratitude to Holly and Melissa of South Davis Hospice and Dr. Justin Mansfield.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Warren/West Warren Ward Chapel, 856 North 5900 West. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Warren/West Warren Cemetery.
