Gary Joseph Hartz

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Gary Joseph Hartz. Gary passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Ogden Regional Medical Center from Cardiac Arrest.
Gary was born on December 17, 1950 in the back seat of his Dad’s car on the way to the hospital in Livermore, California. His parents were Ralph Merald and Helena Rose Ranger Hartz. He spent his childhood in California moving to Utah in 1966.
Gary was a Ben Lomond High School graduate and later received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from the University of Phoenix.
He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1975. He was stationed in several places including, Chicago, San Diego, Hawaii, and Vietnam. He was a trained submarine reactor operator.
He worked for Ogden City Fire Department for three years and eventually went to work for Morton Thiokol Rocket Division where he retired after 39 years.
Gary loved his God, his family, his friends, and his Harley.
Surviving Gary are his wife of 33 years, Dannette; his beloved children, Melissa (Rich) Dallinga, David James (Carrie) Hartz, Elizabeth Cathlene (Brandon) Stephens; seven cherished grandchildren, Alexsis, Zach, Elijah, Tristin, Madison, Gracie, and Ryker; two great-grandchildren, Paige and Sylis; his God-children, Bruce and Kaylee; his precious bonus grandson, Treven; siblings, David (Mona) Hartz, Jaenne Brownlee, Bill (Lynn) Hartz, Diana (Wes) Hedrick, and Salli Berringer; in-laws, Patricia A. Stanger, Scott (Joyce) Stanger, Craig Stanger, LuAnne Stanger Winters, and Rick Stanger. He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, James Stanger; brothers-in-law, Robert Brownlee and Bruce Berringer.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Riverdale Alpine Church, 5050 1275 West, Riverdale, Utah. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
The family would like to thank EMS and First Responders and the Trauma Medical Team at Ogden Regional Medical Center, whose compassion and care will never be forgotten and the outpouring of love from friends and family at this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Eye Institute of Utah or Tiny Hands International Fight Against Human Trafficking.
