Gary L. Iannone
July 9, 1939 ~ March 12, 2017
Our dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend passed away following an extended illness, on March 12, 2017 in Carson City, Nevada; the state he loved as his second home.
Gary was born on July 9, 1939 in Ogden, Utah. He was the second of five children born to N. Henry and Margaret P. Iannone. He attended Ogden Schools and graduated from Ogden High School in 1957.
He accomplished many things during his lifetime and was very proud of being an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America. He attended Weber State University, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science Degree, in Electronic Engineering Technology. He did postgraduate work toward a Master of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (MEEE) through Utah State University.
He worked at the Union Pacific mailroom in Ogden and later at HAFB as an Electronics Engineer. He retired on March 3, 1993.
He married Patsy Fay Harris in October, 1960. They were later divorced. Together they had two daughters, Becky and Kristie.
Gary was clearly a genius in mathematics! It became a hobby and a passion to predict lottery probabilities, and he did so with some accuracy. He had many other hobbies; he was a ham radio operator. He belonged to the American Radio Relay League and stayed current on his membership and license until his death. He loved music, and he played and owned many guitars. He developed a guitar tuner for which he got a U.S. Patent. He appreciated fine art, and enjoyed sketching and oil painting.
Gary enjoyed his retirement in the beautiful setting of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. He always loved hiking and being outdoors. He loved the Tetons and the beautiful Wasatch Front of his home town of Ogden, Utah. Another interest he enjoyed was skiing. He had often spoke about skiing at Snowbasin with Adam West, A.K.A. Batman. He loved cars, airplanes, watching air shows, and he attended Hot August Nights in Reno, Nevada nearly every year since his retirement.
Gary is survived by his daughters, Becky (Robert) Bommer of Ogden; Kristie Iannone of Salt Lake City; his brother, Ronald (Marcia) Iannone of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; sisters, Marilyn (Barry) Price of Goodyear, AZ; Carolyn (Richard) Wallace of Idaho Falls, ID; and Debra Iannone of Ogden; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death.
A Graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Ogden City Cemetery, 1875 Monroe Blvd. This will be followed by a celebration of his life with family and friends at Snowbasin at 1:00 p.m.
