Gary Van Johnson, cherished brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away Monday, October 4, 2010 in Ogden, Utah. He was 76.
He was born September 27, 1934 in Ephraim, Utah to Paul V. and Ruth Larsen Johnson. His favorite childhood memories included working on his grandfather''s farm, hunting with his uncles and devouring his Grandma Johnson''s raisin-filled cookies.
Gary married his childhood sweetheart, Janice Droesbeke, on April 16, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were together 42 years until Janice''s death in 1995.
He worked at Hill Air Force Base for 38 years. He loved to travel, fish and play or coach softball.
Gary is survived by his sister, Janice Burk; his brothers, Steven (Barbara) Johnson, Kim (Syd) Johnson and Craig (Mary Kay) Johnson; his son, Kevin (Denise) Johnson; his daughters, Sheri (Jed) Homer and Patti Johnson; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was welcomed home by his beloved Janice, his parents, a sister and an infant son.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 9th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
The family will meet friends for a visitation on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.
In lieu of flowers, Gary requested donations be made to the Utah Kidney Foundation.
