Gary Lynn Mayfield,

August 29, 1944 ~ June 26, 2017

Gary Lynn Mayfield, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away on June 26, 2017 in Fayetteville, Georgia.  He was born on August 29, 1944 in California to Brigham Arthur and Marjorie (MacKay) Mayfield.  After graduating from Davis High School in 1962, Gary enlisted in the U. S. Army Reserve.  As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) he served a mission in Ireland.  His fondness for Ireland, its people, his mission president and companions endured throughout his life.  Returning from his mission, Gary put himself through college at Weber State University, working at The Freeport Center in Clearfield, UT.

Upon graduation, he worked with Mattel Toys in Southern California while attending the MBA program at Pepperdine University. Subsequently his family followed him in his distinguished career across the country to Idaho, Utah, North Carolina, Arizona, Georgia and finally to Chattanooga, Tennessee where he retired as the Chief Executive Officer of Kenco Group, Inc. with more than 19 years of service.

In 2010 Gary was elected to serve as the Chairman of the International Warehouse Logistics Association (IWLA), and earlier this year was presented a lifetime achievement award by the organization.  His love of service also inspired his work in Nepal and Guatemala with Choice Humanitarian, an organization dedicated to eradicating extreme world poverty.

Gary also enjoyed serving in various LDS church callings.  These included serving as a gospel doctrine teacher, Elders quorum president, counselor in the bishopric, Bishop, counselor in the Stake Presidency, and counselor in the Knoxville, Tennessee Mission Presidency.  He especially enjoyed working with the youth programs of the church.

The three most important things to Gary were his faith, family and friends – everyone was a friend.  He enjoyed travel, fishing, golf, and family trips to Disney and the beaches of South Carolina.  His grandchildren will miss his peanut butter and honey sandwiches, flipping pancakes to the ceiling, and the “best banana milkshakes I’ve ever made.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister-in-law Judy Mayfield, and his father and mother-in law Dale and Fern Poll.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Margie Poll Mayfield, son Dale, and daughter Mindy (Andy) Crockett, all of Fayetteville, Georgia and sons Scott (Katherine) and Ammon of Chattanooga, Tennessee; his ten grandchildren Micole, McKay, Mason, Tanner, Samuel and William Mayfield and Andrew, Caroline, Charlie and Grace Crockett; three brothers, George (Marianne), Rick (Shay) and Brent (Kathi) Mayfield; and brothers-in-law Glen (Linda), Lynn (Kathy) and Brent (Sondra) Poll.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., Ogden.
