Gary Dee Mellies

Gary Dee Mellies, 75, passed away November 4, 2023 in South Ogden, Utah at Stonehenge Care Center. He was born October 5, 1948 in Tremonton, Utah. He was the third son of four boys born to parents, John William and Darlene Hadfield Mellies. He had great memories growing up with his brothers, Wayne, Roger, and Terry.

 

He was a big guy at 6’ 4’ tall, a homebody, and a gentle loving man. Gary was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He met and married Tammy Frandsen on April 9, 1983. They were married for 40 years. Their marriage was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They made their home in Harrisville, Utah. Together they raised three children, Alison Jenkins, Colby (Cindy), and Drew (Rachel).

 

Gary’s early years he lived in Tremonton, Salt Lake, and Idaho. He did well in school. His favorite subjects were reading and math. Gary liked to build bicycles and would go around the neighborhood and collect old bike parts. He was given a little red wagon and would go around and find pop and beer bottles to turn in for money. Kickball, baseball, marbles, and hopscotch were some favorite childhood games. Gary was on the football and wrestling teams in high school and was the unlimited weight champion in wrestling. He graduated from West High School in 1967.

 

In his later years, his career choice was at Utah Power and Light / Pacific Corp. He was a hydro journeyman electrician on a traveling crew in Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. Which he worked at for 44 years.

 

He was a great storyteller, which he enjoyed telling to his coworkers, friends, and family. He was a great Cook! And loved to Eat too! Gary could repair and build a lot of different things. He enjoyed woodworking, coin collecting, fishing, boating, hunting, and camping. He collected guns and his favorite rifle was a 30-06. He loved TV and movies; but he especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

 

Gary is survived by his wife and children; nine grandchildren, Carter, Paige, Brooklyn, Logan, Tucker, Hunter, Forest, Skyler, and Jack; and his brothers, Wayne (Janna) and Terry (Diana) Mellies. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Bridger; parents; and brother, Roger.

 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 N. Monroe Blvd.
