Gary Paul Tesch

Gary Paul Tesch was on born June 30, 1938 in Ogden, Utah to the parents of Chris and (Arlean) Tesch and Mona Olive Wheelwright Tesch Price. He passed away on November 19, 2012 after a difficult battle with prostate cancer. He was courageous and strong throughout. Gary was able to enjoy the comforts of his home thanks to the heroic efforts of his loving wife Tina and the wonderful friends from IHC Hospice. Thank you Dawn for the kisses, Kathy and Carolyn for the love, kindness and support. Thanks to family, friends and neighbors who showed loving care.

He graduated from Weber High School where he first experienced the joy of running as a member of the track team. After graduating, he served a two and half year mission to the Netherlands where he met the love of his life Tina Vanderkuip. Gary and Tina were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 25, 1962. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Gary had a variety of jobs until he began working at Utah Power and Light where he was employed for 36 years.

Gary LOVED people, he was often found in the company of family or friends. He had a magnetic personality. His hobbies included horse racing, hunting, fishing, and playing pool. Running went beyond a hobby. He ran with Mixed Company, Mixed Nuts and anyone who would go with him. He ran in many road races and marathons including the Boston Marathon, Bair Gutsman and the Mt. Hood 195K relay. He always enjoyed a good adventure.

He had a big heart and cared deeply for the welfare of others. He was always thinking of, or doing something for someone. Gary was quick to laugh, enthusiastic and kind to all. Gary faithfully attended any and all events to support those he cared about.

He served in five bishoprics and as a counselor and bishop of the Burch Creek LDS 6th Ward. Gary and Tina served a mission together in Holland, served in the temple, and were ushers at Temple Square.

Gary is survived by his beautiful wife, Tina; daughter, Marlean Tina (Scott) Ohlwiler; son, Michael Alan (Marci) Tesch; four grandchildren, Caden, Mercette, Sara and Katy; siblings, Danny, Bill, Johnny, David, DonnaLu, Barbara, Christine, and Karalean; a boatload of children who thought of him as grandpa and a world of people who loved him.
