Gary Ray Thorsted

Gary Ray Thorsted, 69, of Ogden passed away at his home on April 5, 2021. Gary was born in Canyonville, Oregon on December 31, 1951 to George Russell and Cathilene Wanda Bailey Thorsted. Gary graduated from Ben Lomond High School and then served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1971 while at Lackland Air Force base in San Antonio, Texas.
Gary was married to Shauna Carrick and they had one daughter, Amie. He later married Robin Lorraine Cameron, they were together for 30 years and then divorced.
He worked as a technician for Civil Service at Hill Air Force Base and was medically retired following injuries sustained in a fire on base.
Gary had a lifelong passion for music. He was a founding member of the band John Riley. He was a talented guitarist who passed on his talent and love of music to his family. Before his injuries, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, spending many happy hours in the outdoors.
Gary also enjoyed traveling, taking trips to Italy, London, Paris, all over the United States and a cruise in Alaska. Along, with traveling he would attend plastic modelers conventions around the country and managed to build up quite the collection of plastic models. He also shared a love of coin collecting with his nephew, Mike, and they spent many hours examining coins and making memories around his kitchen table.
Later in life, Gary was able to connect with his long-lost daughter, AJ Elliott of Arizona and meeting brought peace to them both. Gary will be remembered for his kindness and generosity and we will always carry his memory in our hearts.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Amie (Robert) Barbieri, Virginia, their children, Sofia, Jack and Luke; his daughter, AJ (Stacy) Elliott, Arizona, their children, Thomas, Aspen and Victor; his brother, William (Carolyn) Thorsted, Florida; his nephew, Mike Thorsted, Florida; and his nephew, Greg (Donna) Thorsted, Arizona.
He will be laid to rest on Monday, May 3, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Aultorest Memorial Park where military honors will be accorded. Arrangements entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
