Gary Wilcock
Gary Acton Wilcock was born Nov. 15, 1934 in Cowley, Wyoming. Gary was the fourth of five sons born to Glen E. and Elva Acton Wilcock. Gary was raised and attended school in Cowley and later attended the University of Wyoming later transferring to Montana State College in Bozeman MT where he earned his BS degree in Agriculture.
On August 3, 1956 he married Madelyn Ann Peoples from Meeteetse, WY and they were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 9, 1956. Gary earned his Master’s degree in Animal Nutrition from Montana State and he spent his career working and managing in the livestock feed industry. Gary and Madelyn were parents to four children; Jeffrey and Brent born in Lovell, WY and Erin Ann and Melissa Jo born in Great Falls, MT. During his long career Gary’s work took them to Great Falls, MT, Billings, MT, Pueblo, CO and Clovis, NM before retiring to Kaysville. They made many lifelong friends in all these places.
Gary loved his family and was dedicated to them and to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities in the church including Bishop twice, Mission Presidency councilor and Stake President. After retiring Gary and Madelyn and Jeffrey moved to Kaysville to be closer to family and medical attention for Madelyn. Gary continued to care for Madelyn as her health declined. She passed away in September 2006. Gary continued to his dedicated care of Jeffrey who has been a special needs person all his life. In 2009 Gary married LaRene Christensen in Kaysville, UT and they have enjoyed 13 wonderful years together traveling and enjoying their cabin in Island Park, ID.
Gary suffered a severe stroke in 2018 and his health has steadily deteriorated since then. Gary passed away on Aug. 3, 2021.
Gary is survived by his wife LaRene (Kaysville), brother Tom Wilcock (Sheridan, WY) son Jeffrey (West Jordan, UT), son Brent (Carol) Helena, MT, daughter Erin Ann (Mark Petersen) Fruit Heights, UT, daughter Melissa Jo (Curtis Lytle) Layton, UT, 10 grand children, and 16 great grandchildren. He is also survived by LaRene’s children Kelli (Carl Blanton), Brian Christensen (Jennifer), Valori (Alan Layton) and her 6 grand children.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Elva Wilcock, his wife Madelyn Ann Wilcock, brothers Vern, Glen Jr. and Jack Wilcock.
Funeral services will be held Friday August 6, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Kaysville 3rd Ward Chapel, 855 E. Mutton Hollow Rd., Kaysville, Utah. Friends may visit with family Thursday, August 5, 2021 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main Street and Friday from 9 to 10:00 a.m. at the church.
Interment will follow at the Kaysville City Cemetery.
