Gaye Record Staples
April 6, 1940 — February 10, 2024
Centerville, UT - Gaye Record Staples, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 10, 2024.
She was born April 6, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the youngest daughter of Hubert Eugene Record and Bertha Parris Record. She was devoted to her faith, family, and friends, and loved to serve others. Everyone, especially her grandchildren, will remember her for her love, compassion, tenderness, loyalty, sacrifice, and devotion to both family and the Lord.
She grew up under the care of parents who exemplified unconditional love through their words and deeds, whether in managing their antique business, fulfilling church responsibilities, or assisting their neighbors. Their nurturing influence instilled in Gaye a sense of compassion, a keen eye for design, and the ability to create a welcoming environment for everyone she encountered.
She graduated from Olympus High School in 1958 and pursued her studies at Brigham Young University, earning an elementary education degree in 1962. She dedicated two years to teaching 2nd grade at Edgemont Elementary in Sandy, Utah. While at BYU, she was an active member of the Nautilus social club and met her forever sweetheart, Max Staples. They married on April 20, 1962, in the Salt Lake Temple and raised five children together.
Her role as a mother took precedence over everything, and she devoted her time, energy, and talents to nurturing her children. Gaye made sure that every meal, desserts included, was gourmet. She also lent a hand with the daily newspaper route, crafted care packages that could rival Martha Stewart's, made delicious homemade lemon ice cream, organized annual grandchildren pictures with coordinated outfits, and made everyone feel special and valued.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various callings where she expressed her compassion, notably serving as Relief Society President at ward and stake levels. Max and Gaye served three missions together, one at Welfare Square and two within the Boston, Massachusetts mission. Gaye cherished her friends from Cape Verde and New Bedford, Massachusetts, treating them as her extended family.
Survived by her daughter Cydney (Kevin) Woolley, Gilbert, Arizona; son Darin G. (Janet) Staples, Centerville, Utah; daughter Marla (Michael) Palmer, North Salt Lake, Utah; daughter Lynette (Jim) Helmer, Alpine, Utah, and son Kevin E. (Amy) Staples, Farmington, Utah. Adored by sixteen grandchildren: Jenica, Brynn, Garett, Joshua, Sage, Mercedes, Megan, Adam, Lauren, Seth, Ethan, Courtney, Zachary, Max, Gage, and Cameron and three great-grandchildren: Beckham, Kai, and Rhett.
