Gayla Schofield

September 4, 1945 — April 28, 2018

LAYTON – Gayla Lee (Nelson) Schofield our caring, genuine, loving, and one-of-a-kind wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at the age of 72 at her home on April 28, 2018.

Gayla was born on September 4, 1945, in Brigham City, UT to Delbert and Glaia Nelson. In 1964, at the age of 18, Gayla met the love of her life and best friend, Blaine J. Schofield. They fell in love and were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 17, 1965, and together they had 5 children.

She was a lifelong and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she had an unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Gayla was a ray of Sunshine to everyone that she came in contact with. She had many hobbies such as making AMAZING cakes, bowling, sewing, fishing, and attending every game that she could make it to for her kids and grandkids, she also had a knack for serving and caring for others. Her family was her pride and joy and she was often described as MAMA BEAR! The way she preferred to spend the majority of her time was with the love of her life, doing ANYTHING, even the simplest things, as long as they were together!

She is survived by her sweetheart Blaine J. Schofield and four children, Brad (Tara) Schofield of Rochester, MN, Bart (Jill) Schofield of Farr West, Becky (Justin) Anderson of Layton, Brenda (Blaine) Smith of Layton, 19 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, brother Gary Nelson of Farmington, sisters Dell Jean Cook of Bountiful, Kathleen Manning of Roy, Debra Child of Provo, and Jolene Reneau of Ogden. Gayla was preceded in death by her son, Bryan Schofield and her parents.
