Plain City, Utah–Gayle Alvin Wageman, aged 77, passed away on January 18, 2025, surrounded by his family, at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home in Ogden, Utah. Gayle was born December 22, 1947, to Alvin and Lola Wageman. He was the oldest of four boys and loved each of his brothers fiercely. Gayle grew up in Burley, Idaho where he excelled in athletics. Gayle chose to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was called to the Florida Mission from 1967 to 1969. He graduated from Ricks College after returning from his mission and chose to further his college education by attending BYU in Provo where he received his bachelor’s degree. He was forever a loyal BYU sports fan and spent many hours talking about games with friends and family.

The Army drafted Gayle in 1972 during the Vietnam War. He was stationed at Fort Ord in Monterey, California. He served honorably from that time until he was discharged in 1974.

One of his greatest accomplishments while attending BYU was meeting his eternal companion, Cindy Lou Dahlstrom. They married in the Los Angeles Temple on November 25, 1972.

He also is survived by his brother and friend, Bob (Linda) Wageman.

Throughout the years, Gayle loved and supported all his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours teaching and coaching baseball, taking children and grandchildren to the Roy Aquatic Center to teach them to swim, and making memories hunting, fishing and camping. He was a master Dutch Oven cook and passed the talent on to each of his boys. He worked for Utah Power and Light as a board operator for many years until he retired. Gayle also loved to make walking sticks and canes and received many compliments on them. He gave many canes to people in need.

Gayle was always quick to smile, crack a joke, and talk with anyone at any time. He made friends wherever he went. He loved serving members in his ward through teaching. He spent many years as a teacher in Elder’s Quorum and the High Priest Group and loved his calling. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, father-in-law, and his brothers, Virgil and Randy.

The family wanted to thank the nurses and workers at George E. Wahlen Veterans Home. The care and respect they showed Gayle and any visiting family members was greatly appreciated. They went above and beyond and made Gayle and his family always feel comfortable and welcome. The family also wanted to thank CNA’s, Ashlyn and Crystal, that came to the home to work with Gayle.
