Gaylen Howard Bodily

September 26, 1954 ~ February 25, 2017

Gaylen Howard Bodily, 62, born on September 26, 1954, youngest son of Joseph Howard and Margaret Bodily, passed away on February 25, 2017, in Layton, Utah.

The world has lost a very loving, kind and caring man...too good for this earth.  He fought hard to stay in touch with everything in life, he had difficulty communicating because of hearing and speaking infirmities.  Gaylen endured “bullying and teasing” throughout most of his life, this led to depression and isolation.

Luckily after graduating from Bonneville High School and Weber State University, he found his niche in electronic engineering at Lockheed Martin Corporation (L3 Communications) SLC, Utah.  He designed and programmed computer boards for 43 years to help defend our country.  His brilliant mind gave him the ability to excel in this area.  He retired last year and moved closer to his extended family.  We thoroughly enjoyed being with him.

He was a master craftsman; everything he created or repaired was pure perfection.  He was in excellent physical condition.  He loved to ski, bike, hike, photography, and anything to do with nature and technology.

His service to others was his first priority! Many have shared how he always was eager to help them with their needs.  Gaylen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He was active in the scouting program, lending to many of his amazing skills.

Preceding him in death: his parents, siblings, Sharon Wheelwright, Evan Bodily, and Douglas Bodily.

Gaylen is survived by his loving brother and truly best friend in the whole world, Elwyn (Kathie) Bodily and many beloved nieces and nephews.  He had a special relationship with his niece Jana Bodily, for always “going above and beyond” to help Gaylen with delicious dinners, visits, and being his skiing partner.  We all celebrate his life of dignity, integrity, and dedication.

We do not want to place blame on others, but, always remember to be kind and patient with those whom are struggling to ‘fit in’.  It was hard to see Gaylen feel insecure because of the way people treated him.

*Kindness is contagious, let it begin with me.*
