Gaylen Taggart Field, 77, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at his home.

He was born May 30, 1936 in Ogden, Utah to Harold and Hazel Taggart Field. He graduated from Weber High School in 1954.

On June 1, 1955, Gaylen married Kathryn Seifert. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple in 1957.

Throughout his life, he worked a variety of jobs including farming, the railroad and Utah Power and Light Company, from where he retired. His friends at the Power Company nicknamed him Camel. He went from a lineman to a crew supervisor and then to a Hot Stick Specialist in the Safety Department. After retirement, he became a full time farmer in Idaho.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing baseball, basketball, and snowmobiling with his family. He loved to square dance and ride horses.

His passion was to raise and race horses. He was a member of the Beehive Racing and Wasatch Slopes Chariot Racing Association. He also belonged to the Challengers Riding Club.

Gaylen is survived by his loving wife, Kay Field ; two sons, Doug and Kent; one daughter, Kathy (Bill) Brabec; five grandchildren, Ryan and Lindsey Field, Jamie, Dustin, and Kyler Brabec; two great-grandchildren, Makiah and Parley; three sisters, Faye, Jeanne Anne, Lynn and two brothers, Darl and Don.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dean and John Field.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 2, 2014 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. The family will meet with friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Roy City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Utah Blind Association, 250 N. 1950 W., Ste B, SLC, UT 84116-1823 or Make a Wish Foundation, http://utah wish.org.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Encompass Hospice for the love and care that they have shown our husband and father.
