Gene Mack Stallings

December 21, 1931 ~ February 17, 2015

Gene Mack Stallings, age 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at his home in Eden.  His wife of 58 years was by his side.

Mack was born to James “Jim” Ritter and Virginia Mae “Judy” McEntire Stallings on December 21, 1931.  He was raised in the quiet farming community of Eden, living there his entire life.

Mack married Rena May Graham on February 24, 1956.

He served in the army.  After basic training, he was shipped to Korea where he served as a firefighter.  Mack was a member of the American Legion Post 129 and served as the Commander for many years.

Mack worked in construction for several years in Ogden and then started his own construction business using the first backhoe in the Ogden Valley.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Mack was a great story teller using a very colorful vocabulary.  He was quick with a good joke.  He took pride in raising good Hereford Cattle, hay, fine oats, good dogs, and lots of hell.

Perhaps his greatest legacy is raising many boys to become great men.

Mack is survived by his wife, Rena; one brother, J. Dan (Susan) Stallings of Twin Falls, ID; two sisters, Janet Fay (Duane, deceased) Jensen of Pocatello, ID; Mary Sue (Keith) Rasmussen of North Ogden; Jason Furgeson whom Mack referred to as “his boy” and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family extends special thanks to Jason Furgeson, Dan Harris, Ercell and Roberta Blain, and Alicia and Cole Messerly for their tender loving care.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Meadow View Cemetery, Eden.
