Gene Seth Tanner
Gene Seth Tanner, 87, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at his home in Pleasant View, Utah after a short battle with cancer.
Gene was born December 15, 1923 in Payson, Utah to Seth and Inger Marie Tanner. Growing up, he also lived in Eureka, Utah.
He graduated from Payson High School where he met Marjorie Doreen Money. They were married on November 10, 1944 in Laredo, Texas while he was serving in the Army Air Corp. Together they were the parents of four children and later divorced. He married Georgia Joanne Nate Trussel on April 9, 1978 and he became the loving step-father to her son and his family.
He joined the Army Air Corp during WWII and served as a Gunnery Sergeant. After serving his country, he carried on his commitment for our veterans by becoming a lifetime member of American Legion Post 129.
After his honorable discharge at the end of the war, he moved to Layton and then to South Ogden. He later moved to Pleasant View for the remainder of his life. He retired from Hill Air Force Base after 34 years of service. After retiring from HAFB, he also worked at Thessco Industrial Supply in Ogden for 12 years and as a crossing guard, where he served the Ogden City School children for over 20 years.
Gene was a member of the LDS Church where he served as a Boy Scout Leader.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time in the mountains with his family. He especially enjoyed the annual deer hunting trip and the many fishing trips, including those at Washington and Alaska.
He was a father to more than just his family and loved by many and a hero to all.
He is survived by his wife Georgia, his sister Helen Perkins of Springville, Utah and brother Roy Tanner of Mapleton, Utah; children: Steven (Suzanne) Tanner of Bountiful, Utah; Richard Tanner of Roy, Utah; John (Lynette) Hansen of West Weber, Utah; Robin (Suzanne) Bennett of Ogden, Utah; and step-son Kevin (Carrie) Trussel of Pocatello, Idaho. His posterity includes, 15 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Seth and Inger, and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Family will meet with friends and loved ones on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd, So. Ogden.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude and love to the entire staff of Intermountain Home Hospice Care for their loving care of Gene and for being with them at the end.
