Our Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Sister Was Called Back to the Loving Arms of Our Heavenly Father on November 5th, 2024
Geneel MaRee DePierro, 79, passed away on November 5, 2024, at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She was born on April 25, 1945, in Boise, Idaho, to Waldo Arthur Spencer and Deltha Eloise Dixon Spencer. Geneel was married to her eternal companion, Amedio (Sonny) DePierro Jr., on June 5, 1963, in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. Together, they shared more than 61 years of love, devotion, and cherished memories.
Geneel was a devoted wife and mother who made her family the center of her life. She ran her home with love, compassion, and unwavering faith, always putting the needs of others before her own. She was the heart and soul of her family, the matriarch who welcomed all with open arms, especially during holidays and family gatherings. Her home was a place where loved ones and friends alike felt at ease and cherished. Geneel’s nurturing spirit extended far beyond her immediate family, as she was a friend to many and served in many leadership roles within her church and community.
A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Geneel served as a Relief Society President and Primary President, always seeking to uplift and strengthen others. She had a special love for children and was often found with one of her grandchildren or great-grandchildren on her lap, offering them love, hugs, comfort and snuggles. Her legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and unconditional love.
Geneel worked with dedication and compassion for the State of Utah in the Division of Services for People with Disabilities, and also for the Davis County School District and Head Start, helping children and families in the community. She was an active participant in 4-H, served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, and was a leader in the PTA. She enjoyed camping, sewing, reading, cooking, and baking, especially for her beloved children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whom she adored.
Her greatest joy was her family. She worked tirelessly to keep her loved ones close, organizing family reunions in the Uintah Mountains and supporting each of her children with gentle guidance. Geneel’s family was her pride and joy, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and unity.
Geneel is survived by her loving husband, Amedio (Sonny) DePierro Jr., and her five children: Marcee (Tony) Sideravage of Ohio, Amy (Jay) Packer of Utah, Cari (Robert) Burnell of New York, Michael (Nicole) DePierro of Michigan, and Debbie (Nate) Glade of Utah. She is also survived by two sisters, Camille (Kay) McNeil and Cindy (Mike) Sliger, and 17 grandchildren: Zachary (Trinity) Schofield, Joshua (Tiffanie) Packer, Kaitlyn (Russell) Gordy, Jayden Packer, Jacob (Addie) Packer, Jason Burnell, Christy Burnell, Carissa Burnell, Bobbie Burnell, Ethan (Rebeca) DePierro, Olivia DePierro, Chloe DePierro, Gregory Glade, Jane Glade, Caroline Glade, Simon Glade, and Tella Glade, as well as 17 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Waldo and Deltha Spencer, her in-laws, Amedio and Hazel DePierro, and her brother, Sherrill Spencer.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated providers, nurses, and staff at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City for their compassionate care and unwavering support of Geneel during this challenging time. Their kindness extended not only to her, but also to her family.
