Geneva Cope Bentley

December 16, 1953 ~ May 23, 2014

Geneva Cope Bentley returned to her Heavenly Home on May 23, 2014. Geneva prided herself in being a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Her friends and family were inspired by her integrity, work ethic, and kindness. Anyone who knew Geneva knew she cherished family above all else.

She was born in Hurricane, Utah to James and Carma Cope on December 16, 1953. Throughout her life, she was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she met her future husband, Steven Douglas Bentley. It was love at first sight for him, but she gave him a run for his money. Eventually, he caught up to her before leaving on his mission. On May 19, 1973, they married in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. With her persistence, they moved to Provo, Utah to attend BYU. By working as the supervisor of the BYU Records Office, she helped Steve to complete his five years of school.

Afterwards, they moved to Roosevelt, Utah, where Steve worked for the Uintah Basin Association of Governments; she worked for Zion’s Bank and Century 21. Steve later entered the United States Air Force, and Geneva became a full-time mom. She enjoyed sewing dresses for her girls and substituting for elementary school classes. Steve’s work took her and her children, “Mel” and “Jani”, all over Europe, the U.S., and Canada. A few years before his retirement from the USAF, she went back to school and earned her Bachelor’s in Education; she’d fulfilled a lifelong dream. She taught elementary school for 10 years, but retired when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. She bravely and courageously handled those daunting challenges.

Geneva was fortunate to serve in a multitude of LDS church positions; some of which included: Ward Relief Society President (3 times), Stake Relief Society Presidency, Ward YW President, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, Primary Teacher, and various other positions. While she enjoyed each of them immensely, she especially loved participating in the ward choir.

She is survived by her husband; her father, James Cope; her daughters, Melanie and Janice; her granddaughters, Ariya and Amelie; her sister, Cheryle Ann Cope; her brothers, James M. Cope (Merrily), A. Lynn Cope (Debbie), Edward L. Cope (Courtney), John C. Cope (Ann); and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 28, at 11 a.m. in the Pleasant View 2 nd Ward building at 250 W Elberta Dr., North Ogden, Utah.

All services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
