"Together Forever"
Genice Faith Messerly Zweifel
OGDEN - On a beautiful summer day, Friday, August 7, 2009, Genice Faith Messerly Zweifel passed away. She had endured many challenges during her last years on earth after a remarkable life of working hard and giving so much selfless love to family and friends. She is happy to rejoin her husband, parents and other loved ones in the life hereafter.
Genice was born September 17, 1918 in Montpelier Idaho, the sixth child of fourteen born to John J. Messerly and Mary Louise Grunig. She recalled with much fondness the many experiences growing up in this large, happy family.
She married Devere Frank Zweifel on April 28, 1941 in Ogden. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake temple. He passed away January 29, 1993.
Genice was reared and educated in Montpelier and Ogden. She graduated from Weber High School and worked for 28 years for Mountain Bell as a telephone operator.
She was an excellent homemaker and always kept a beautiful home and yard. As a hobby she made beautiful dolls and dressed them exquisitely.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She loved the gospel, served as a primary teacher, and was a relief society visiting teacher and supervisor for many years.
Her favorite times were with her children and grandchildren when they vacationed in the Western United States. Yellowstone National Park was a family favorite and they went every summer. She loved being with the trees and cooking and eating outdoors with her family. Genice was a fan of the Utah Jazz from the very beginning and we will miss hearing her cheer on her favorite team.
She is survived by her children, Judy Miller, Ogden; Alan Zweifel, Ogden; Barbara (Gary) Grewal, Castro Valley, California; her grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart, Pamela Long, Scott Petty, Jaimee Beynon, Shellie Vanorman, Robert Zweifel, Allison Seamons, Elizabeth Grewal and Olivia Faith Grewal; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving her is her brother Wayne Russ (Myrna) Messerly and three sisters, Eleen Holley, Donna Fernelius, Helen Hepworth.
Five brothers, Sherwood, Grant, Barnard, Ross, Leonard and four sisters, Marie Shaw, Ralphine Wright, Muriel Burnham and Ramona Gilgen preceded her in death.
Special thanks to IHC and Hospice for the loving and kind care of our mother.
The family would like to express their gratitude to her daughter Judy for the loving care of our mother for many years.
