Geniel Mann Adams

1925-2011

LAYTON - Geniel Mann Adams, 85, passed away in peace and was surrounded by loved ones on January 5, 2011, at the Legacy Village Assisted Living Center. Cause of death was incident to age. She lived a full life, cherished her relationships and you always knew where you stood with Geniel. She could be stubborn and blunt, but more because she cared deeply about loved ones and wanted to give her two cents.

Geniel was born September 18, 1925, in Bountiful, Utah, to Albert Mann and Mary Margaret Waite. Geniel was the seventh of nine children. She graduated from Davis High School and married the love of her life, William Wayne Adams of Layton, Utah, for time and all eternity, on April 24, 1946, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were local kids all their lives, having met while working at Lagoon before settling in the heart of Layton with the old Reindeer Barn in a home they built with their own hands and hard work. They were blessed with three wonderful children, Brent, Mary, and Jackie Adams.

Geniel was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions in the church during her lifetime. She was a very competitive personality, active in sports and excelled for many years on local softball and volleyball teams. She worked in retail for many years, and helped corral children on the school bus for many more, riding alongside Wayne while keeping the kids in check. Geniel and Wayne were also famous for helping Santa Clause keep his Reindeer team ready for that special Christmas flight and had many opportunities to take Santa''s Reindeer to areas around the western states to be enjoyed by young and old alike.

Grandma Geniel was the best. She was the other side of Grandpa, much tougher and rigid, and not afraid to give her opinion on anything, which we have all come to appreciate, seeing it now come out in our own personalities. Sometimes it was hard to hear, but she was usually right. She loved sitting on the phone and talking to her neighbors, she loved bragging about her beloved husband and his talented wood crafting skills, and she loved and adored her grandkids, who she lovingly called " her little sh*ts" on occasion, before pouncing on them and "kissing their faces off." Anyone she could brag to about her grandkids she would, she made each and every one of us feel like we could amount to something. We love you, Grandma.

Geniel is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne, who she is still hugging as we speak, having been without her sweetheart for the past 8 years; her brothers; Melvin, Albert, Harvey, and Lloyd Mann, and by her sisters; Zada Mckay, Arlene Smith, and Rita Morton.

Geniel is survived by her children Brent Wayne (Kathy) Adams of Mountain Green, Utah, Mary (Kenneth) Pettingill of Layton, Utah, and Jackie (Allen) Platt of Fruit Heights, Utah, and by a sister, Ora (Carl) Clayton of Sunset, Utah , a brother-in-law Lester B. Morton and two sisters-in law, Kathryn Adams Thorton and Wanda Adams Petersen. She dearly loved her 12 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 10, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment will be at the Kaysville Cemetery.

A special thanks to all those at Chancellor Gardens Assisted Living Center for all the love and concern given to Geniel, and for taking such good care of her for so many years and letting her cheer on her beloved Utah Jazz to keep her spirits up. Thank you also to Legacy Village for their wonderful help during the last weeks of Geniel''s life. Also we as a family would like to thank Inspiration Hospice for helping us through a tough time. We love you Mom, you are a great Lady!! Enjoy your long awaited reunion with your eternal sweetheart. Go down to Maverick and fill up those old orange cups and have a Diet Coke together again, it''s been too long. You both deserve it.
