Genoa Kennington Wilhelmsen

Genoa K. Wilhelmsen

Genoa K. Wilhelmsen, our wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away on Saturday, October 19th, 2013, after enjoying life through all of her 94 A½ years. Her life was filled with acts of service and caring. She also delighted in "stirring the pot" and "pressing the buttons" of those she knew and loved. But now she has left her loved ones here, to go to her long awaited reunion with her sweet and loving husband, William.

Genoa was born on April 3, 1919, in Afton, Wyoming, the third of six children of Ira Lee Kennington and Emeline Humphreys. She graduated from Preston High School in 1936 and later received a degree in education from Weber State College in 1965.

She married William Niels Wilhelmsen on February 23, 1940 in the Logan LDS temple. William preceded her in death in 1978 after a 20 year battle with Alzheimer''s.

Her four children are Geniel (Jerry) Montgomery, Linda Lee (Don) Perry, W. Grover (Diana) Wilhelmsen and Colleen (Darrel) Watt. She has 23 grandchildren and 56 2/3 great grandchildren.

She was an elementary school teacher in the Davis County School District for 21 years. She served several local LDS missions including 5 years at Beehive Clothing in Layton. She also served as a hostess at the Beehive House for 25 years. She was also a long time member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, traveling, music and theater and helping others.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister, 1 granddaughter, and 1 great granddaughter.

We will miss the spunk and sparkle she added to all our lives. We love you Mom!!

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 25, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
