George L. Bell
OGDEN, UTAH– George L. Bell, 80, died of natural causes June 3, 2007. He was born May 2, 1927 in Ogden, Utah, one of three children and the only son of George and Beatrice Lee Bell. He met his wife of 60 years, June Brewer, in the 9th grade at Lewis Junior High. Upon graduation from Ogden High in 1945, he enlisted in the US Navy at the close of WWII. Honorably discharged, he then obtained an A.S. degree from Weber College and a B.S. in finance at the University of Utah. He worked in finance including for Sears in Price, UT until 1962 when he moved his family back to Ogden where he started his own business, ultimately founding Bell Janitorial Supply, which has been in business for over 40 years.
George married June in the Logan Temple August 4, 1947.
He was a faithful member and High Priest of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Forest Green Ward. George served in several bishoprics, on the high council, and as Bishop of the Ogden 12th Ward for seven years. He served with distinction as a member of the Ogden School Board for 21 years, including as President, and an enthusiastic board member of Ogden Weber Applied Technology Center. He was a member and past president of the Ogden Lions Club and a member of Ogden Rotary. He avidly supported Weber State University from which he, his wife, and all of his eight children graduated.
His warmth and sense of humor endured to the end. Though he struggled with ill health his entire adult life, he overcame every obstacle with an indefatigable spirit. A man of great character - and who was a real character - he had a large circle of friends, whom he loved and respected. He loved a good joke and used humor with skill and gusto. He had deep affection for his parents and June’s parents, G. Stanley and Emily Wallentine Brewer, and for his and June’s siblings. He was interested in every person he met and generously helped untold numbers along their way in life.
He was a dedicated husband and father and played an influential role in his family’s lives, which we have no doubt will continue. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and other family deeply and fondly. His commitment to principles of integrity, honesty, fortitude and noble manhood was unswerving. His testimony of the Savior and His Gospel was strong and pure. He dearly loved the Church and the Brethren.
He is survived by his wife, June Brewer Bell; one daughter Allyson (Mike) Tanner of South Ogden; and seven sons: Greg (JoLynn), Fruit Heights; Chris (Karen, deceased), Centerville; Dexter (Becky), Centerville; Corey (Kristen), Farmington; Justin (Liane), Salt Lake City; Nathan (Melanie), Moraga, CA; and Daren (Janet), Farmington. He is also survived by his sister Marilyn Bell (Clyde, deceased) Smith and by June’s siblings Maralyn (Frank) Johnson, Beverly (Jack, deceased) Cope, Stan (Diane) Brewer, Doug (Linda) Brewer, and Kathi (Tom) Kimble.
