George G. Delis
January 10, 1920 – February, 2 2008
OGDEN - George G. Delis, 88, of Ogden passed away Saturday, February 2, 2008 after an extended illness. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
George was born in Murray, Utah on January 10, 1920, to Constantine and Katherine Marthakis Delis, who were both proud Greek immigrants. He graduated from Murray High School.
George served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Sergeant in the 320th Bombardment Group flying in B-26 Bombers during World War II. He was involved in combat operations across North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. George was extremely proud of his country and his military service.
On 5 December 1948, he married Angeline Thiros from Layton, Utah, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Salt Lake City. He worked as a civil servant for the Department of the Air Force at Hill Air Force Base for 30 years in aircraft maintenance.
George was a life long member of the Greek Orthodox Church. He loved camping and fishing with his family and supported the Boy Scouts with his sons.
Surviving are his wife, Angeline; his son Lieutenant Colonel U.S Army (Retired) Dean, his wife Janie, daughter Angela, and son Christopher residing in Cary, North Carolina; his son John, his wife Anca, and son George residing in Las Vegas, Nevada; and his son Bill, his wife Lesli, daughter Mackenzie, and daughter Sophia residing in Ogden, Utah.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Bill, Pete, Spero, infant brother John, and youngest brother John.
George enjoyed his frequent visits and discussions with Father John Emanuelson. The family is extremely grateful to Dr. Jeffrey Call for his many years of dedicated medical care for George. Also, the family would like to thank the Cardiovascular Care Unit at McKay Dee Hospital for their caring and respectful medical care during George’s recent hospital stays.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, February 5th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 674 42nd Street, Ogden, Utah. A Trisagion prayer will be held at 7 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 6th at 11 a.m. at Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 674 42nd Street, Ogden, Utah.
Interment will be at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church.
