George C. Drew
George C. Drew age 96 passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday May 6, 2009 in Bountiful, Utah.
George was born in Brooklyn, NY, on March 14, 1913. George proudly served in the U. S. Army 1940-1945, he then served in the U. S. Air Force 1946-1963. His military career included tours in Hawaii, Iceland, Europe, Guam, Japan, Philippines, and Turkey. George participated in the following WWII combat actions: Central Europe, Central Pacific and Rhineland. He was honored with over 15 awards and medals during his military career. He retired as a SMSGT from the 2727 Airmunitions Squadron Hill Air Force Base in December 1963 and continued working in Civil Service until 1976. With over 20 years of U.S. military service he is a hero in the eyes of his family and loved ones.
George will be deeply missed by his four children Pamela Brown (Bob), Fresno, CA; Chris Drew, Centerville, UT; Robin Sorensen, Chesapeake, VA and Elizabeth Lucido (Lou) Park City, UT, along with his six grandchildren Heather, Lisa, Cody, Rusty, Vanessa and Tony. He was preceded in death by his much beloved wife Gladys Marie Drew.
George was the oldest member of the VFW Post 8307, Layton, UT, where he spent many days. George will be remembered for a beer in his hand, a book in his lap and the love he had for his wife.
Memorial services will be held 11 am Saturday May 16, 2009 at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. where friends may call from 10-11 am prior to services. Interment Kaysville City Cemetery.
