George Hyde

November 19, 1960 — February 18, 2018

On February 18, 2018, George E. Hyde left this earthly home at the age of 57. True to his nature, George left mortality early so as not to arrive late to an important meeting. He was always anxious to be ahead of the appointed time. Mesothelioma Cancer was the cause of his early departure, but he was ready, and we presume on time - His time.

George was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served the Lord as a missionary in Washington D.C. under the direction of Jon M. Huntsman, whom he loved and admired. He continued serving in the manner he had been taught in many areas of commerce and Priesthood service. He lived and served in Kaysville, Utah; Sparks, Nevada; Lehi, Utah and most recently Bigfork, Montana, where he worked for Counter Assault Bear and Pepper Spray.

His areas of service included Scouting as Scoutmaster, Varsity Team Coach, Wood Badge Course Director, Wood Badge Committee Member, and many other supportive roles, all of which qualified him to be a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. Additional service included many years as a counselor in Bishoprics, as a Bishop, and as a counselor in the Stake Presidency working with President Nathan L. Baker and Robert H. Heyn. George also loved working with the youth and was proud to say that he received his twelve-year pin for attending Young Women’s Camp, in addition to decades of camping with the Scouts.

George grew up in Kaysville, Utah, and graduated from Davis High School in 1979. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Utah in 1986. George was a life-long learner. He lived his life with a passion for many different activities. He loved flying as a private pilot, diving as a certified SCUBA diver, where he led the way in getting his family SCUBA Certified so they could dive together. He loved to fish, which he claimed was an occupational hazard due to his career in the sporting goods industry. Hunting was an obsession which he received as a “chip off the old block.” He and his father spent many sleepless nights and early mornings in anticipation of a great day to come.

However, his greatest passion in this life is and always will be his family! He is survived by his childhood sweetheart, Julie Kimose Hyde, and six perfect daughters; Laurie (Weston) Broadbent, Kellie (Jared) Stephens, Ann Marie (Jordan) Smith, Kaytlynn (Scott) Powell, Madison (Russel) Jensen, and Elizabeth Hyde (a bonus child to keep Julie young), as well as his mother, Carole, two brothers, John and Jim, and three sisters, Kristen, Jane, and Emilee. George’s father, Ed, passed away on August 7, 2000 - also too early, but he left to get the party started as he was always the life of the party. We’re sure theirs was a very happy reunion.

In lieu of any flowers, donations or other contributions, George would encourage you to contribute to Joete’s Playground, a charitable organization committed to building playgrounds for children in underprivileged locations all over the world. George wants kids to have a place to play just like he had growing up.
