George Lew Keoppel
George Lew Keoppel our loving Daddy and Grandpa passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 after a long illness at George E. Wahlen Veterans Home. He was born on February 7, 1931 in Logan, Utah to Phillip and Annie Keoppel.
After graduating from Ogden High School he joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his Country in the Korean War from June 1941-1950. He received many awards, a Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star for saving the life of a fellow comrade, A United Nations Service Medal, and a Combat Infantry Badge. Following his Military Service he worked for Jim Whetton Buick while he attended Weber State and was on the Honor Roll.
On June 17 1960 he Married Mary Louise SenClair, one year later on June 17 1961 they sealed their marriage in the LDS Temple. Together they raised two sons and two daughters.
In 1965 they relocated, he retired from Temple Industry''s in Lovkin Texas In 1990 and returned to Ogden in 1991 to be with his family. He worked in the food court at the New Gate Mall for many years. He was loved by all who knew him. One of his favorite things to do was go out to lunch at Village Inn in South Ogden or the Golden Coral with his Daughter Judie. All the employees knew him and it never failed but some cute server would always come up and hug on him. It always made him smile. He loved painting birdhouses and giving them to everyone he knew. I am sure over the last three years he painted at least 300 of them. But make no mistake his Daughter Judie was the person he loved the very most.
Surviving are his daughter Judie McKay Barker of South Ogden, daughter-in-law, Dianne Keoppel of Clearfield, brother, Ralph (Janet) Keoppel of Huntsville, 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his wife, Mary, two sons, Robert Keoppel and Gerald Keoppel, daughter, Sharon Barker, one grandson, Steven King.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Ogden City Cemetery. Friends may visit family on Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. We would like to thank everyone at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home for the loving care he received over the last few years.
