The only child of George A. Koob and Marie Donelon, George was born on January 10, 1924 in Wellston, Missouri. He attended Highland Elementary in Rockford, Illinois, where his father was the golf pro at a local country club. His family later returned to St. Louis, spending their summers in Grand Haven, Michigan, while his father worked. George graduated from Wellston High School in 1942. He played baseball and football, being named Co-Captain of the football team and President of the Lettermen Club. It was during his high school years that he met Martha (Patt) Moll, who was his first date and would later become his wife of 57 years.
During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps as a Radio Operator/Waist Gunner on a B-24 bomber. He was later stationed with his crew at various air bases in the States, and was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Sergeant.
George graduated from St. Louis University, and immediately became engaged to Patt Moll. They were married November 18, 1950. For the next 37 years, he worked as a Casualty Underwriter and Manager, transferring between St Louis and Kansas City until retiring from Great American Insurance in 1986. He and Patt lived the majority of their adult lives in Kansas City, raising two sons, Kevin and Doug.
Following the death of their son Kevin in 2004, George and Patt relocated to North Salt Lake, to be closer to their grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his lifetime companion and sweetheart Patt. George is survived by his son Doug, Doug’s wife Meg, his two grandchildren, Lauren, Ryan, and a multitude of nieces, nephews and their children who love and adore him.
A life-long and devoted member of the Catholic Church, George was a parishioner at Christ the King Catholic Church of Kansas City and St. Olaf Catholic Church of Bountiful.
George took great pride in meticulously manicuring his yard. Each fall, he looked forward to the many memorable duck and goose hunting outings he shared with his sons.
