George Andrew Peterson

George Andrew Peterson, 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 29, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at Peachtree Place Assisted Living after a long struggle with Alzheimer''s.

He was born October 14, 1942 in Los Angeles, the second of seven children born to Ivan S. and Doris M. Neville Peterson. He was raised and attended schools in Brigham City, Utah graduating from Box Elder High School in 1960.

On July 22, 1965, George married Gloria D, Howell in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they raised a daughter and two sons, Rebecca, Todd, and Scott.

He worked at Hill Air Force Base in the heavy equipment vehicle maintenance department for 29 years, retiring in 1995. After retirement and because of his passion for gardening and yard work he ran his own lawn care business up until the time he was diagnosed with Alzheimer''s.

George was a man of few words and many talents, he was hardworking, and happiest when he was tending his garden, working in the yard, or tinkering with cars in his garage. He was affectionately dubbed "Man" by his eldest grandson, Blake, and the nickname carried on through all the grandchildren. George never went anywhere without meeting someone he knew; he was loved and respected by many.

George is survived by his wife of 48 years, Gloria; their three children and spouses, Rebecca (Michael) McKinney, Roy; G. Todd (Brandy) Peterson, Clinton; Scott (Amanda) Peterson, Roy; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; four sisters, Connie (Steve) Schultz, Clinton; Marlene (Lyle) Erickson, Brigham City; Arlene (Stanley) Stoner, Brigham City; Carolyn (Jeff) Douglas, Pleasant View; one sister-in-law, Kay Peterson, Brigham City; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Morrell, and one sister, Marolyn.

Special thanks to the staff of Peachtree Place and the staff of Curo Hospice, especially his hospice nurses, Brittany and Laura, for all of their loving and compassionate care.

The Gates of Heaven opened and received another "Gardening" Angel. Our Dad was a hardworking and generous man. His thumb was as green as emeralds and his nails were black with grease from the neighborhood cars. Growing up we had the greenest lawn and the best tomatoes and peas. All the neighborhood cars ran like clockwork and if they didn''t they were in our backyard garage on jack stands being worked on after he worked 8 hours at HAFB. Good-bye for now, we love you Dad. Love, Becky, Todd, and Scott. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 3rd at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.

The family will meet with friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
