George Jae Thain

George Jae Thain, 85, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015. Born in Logan, Utah on August 26, 1929 to Ann Lemon Thain and George William Thain, he was the second of seven children and the oldest son. George spent his childhood on the Thain Dairy Farm in Benson, Utah, learning to rise early and work hard. He graduated from North Cache High in 1948 and played on the football team and played cornet in the marching band. He served an LDS mission to the Northern States Mission and then three years in the US Navy during the Korean War.  He earned BS degree and a Masters of Industrial Education at USU where he met his wife, Claire Billings. They married on June 9, 1959 in the Logan Temple.  Claire preceded him in death this past June.

George is survived by his three children, George Todd (Janis) of Stansbury Park, Michelle Bliss (James) of Layton, and Steven Ross (Channing) of Taylorsville.  Also two siblings, Wade Thain (Liz) of Logan, and Coy Luedtke (Fred) of Whittier, CA along with eight grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

George was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served as a Temple Square guide, ordinance worker in the Bountiful Temple, and LDS Employment missionary.

He taught automotive mechanics, and then finished his career at Utah Transit Authority, working there 20 years as an engineer.

George enjoyed studying the scriptures, Church Doctrine, and Church History. He was an expert mechanic and skilled in gardening and home improvement and always whistled a cheerful tune as he went about his day. He also had a great sense of humor and a particular fondness for black licorice.

George was a loving husband, father, and friend who will be missed greatly. Thank you for all you did for us Dad.  We miss you and your whistle!

George’s family thanks caregivers from Hospice for Utah and Chancellor Gardens for their kind and patient care during his stay in the Alzheimer’s unit following Claire’s passing.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. where friends may visit family Wed. Jan. 7 th from 6-8 pm and 12:30 – 1:30 pm prior to services.  Interment Centerville City Cemetery.
