George G. Yonemura

George Goro Yonemura, 93, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017 peacefully at home.
He was born on October 30, 1923, near Sumner Washington, the son of Rokusuke and Asago Fukui Yonemura. George was placed in a relocation camp for Japanese Americans during WWII, just prior to his high school graduation in 1942.
After serving honorably in the United States Army, George came to reside in Ogden, Utah where he worked at the Clearfield Naval Depot and the US Postal Service, spending 40 years as a public servant.
George served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during WWII as part of Military Intelligence. He was sent to Japan as an interrupter on the Kochi Military team during the signing of the “Japanese Instrument of Surrender”. George was honorably discharged from, Ft Lewis, WA, on November 11, 1946.
In his early adult years, George worked for the Great Northern Railroad, played semi professional baseball as an outfielder, was an avid photographer, enjoyed fly-fishing and tying flies.
On October 14, 1956 he married Ada Kinomoto from, Osada-Ehime Ken, Japan, at the Buddhist Church of Ogden. They were married for 42 years before she passed in 1999. They adopted and raised two children, David and Tina. George retired in 1987 to care for Ada full time during her illness. He was a member of the Buddhist Church of Ogden for 60 years and held various positions during that time.
George enjoyed staying active and working in his garden. He was a beloved brother, uncle and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. George leaves behind a son, David Yonemura of Ogden, UT; a daughter Tina (Mark) Palmer of Columbus, OH; three grandchildren; Dylan Palmer, Silver Lake, CA, Keytin Palmer, Madisen Palmer and two great grandchildren Lily and Penelope Irr all from Columbus, OH along with one sister Frances (Kay) Yamamoto, Caldwell, ID.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Kinomoto Yonemura, parents Rokusuke and Asago Yonemura, four brothers Joe, Ben (Josie), James (Mary) and Shiro Yonemura, and two sisters May Yonemura and Yoshiko (Karl) Yamamoto.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 10 a.m.at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah 84403, with Reverend Jerry Hirano, officiating. Family will meet friends on Friday, June 16, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ogden Buddhist Church, 155 North Street, Ogden, Utah 84404.
