Georgia Griffin Chard
LAYTON - Georgia Griffin Chard, 87, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2009 in Layton. She was born March 22, 1921 in Salt Lake City, Utah the daughter of Hyrum Dewey and Alice Davies Griffin.
Georgia married LaMar Thomas Chard on September 29, 1943. Their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Temple on July 12, 1944.
After growing up in Cache Valley and while attending Weber Nursing School during WWII Georgia met and wed a young military officer. She followed him to many places during their military career. They lived in Utah, Texas, New Mexico, Okinawa, Arkansas, Guam and South Dakota while raising eight children. She served in many church callings including R.S. President, Primary Presidency, and YW President. After retiring, she and her eternal companion served two LDS Missions, one to Cebu, Philippines and Newfoundland, Canada. She was also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
Surviving are her children, Carole Ann Clark, Layton, UT; Terrell (Marcia) Chard, Layton, UT; Stephen (Linda) Chard, Sandy, UT; Blake (Sheila) Chard, Olympia, WA; Cynthia (Dale) Rackham, Syracuse, UT; Michael (Nichole Reese) Chard, Bountiful, UT; siblings, Marie Nichols, Lynn Griffin, Florence Butler, Audrey Hutchison, Joyce Molyneaux and Ruth Jones. Georgia has 26 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her sons, Lynn Chard, Kent Chard, husband, LaMar Chard and brother, Richard Griffin.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 12, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
