Gerald Vernon Bush

September 22, 1936 — April 9, 2025

Clinton

Gerald (Gary) Bush was born September 22, 1936, in Logan, UT to Charles Vernon Bush and Venetta Rae Weeks. He and his six siblings were raised in Smithfield, UT. Gary graduated from Davis High in 1955. He married Louise Platt on August 22, 1957, in the Salt Lake temple. Gary graduated from Brigham Young University in 1959 with a bachelor's degree in broadcasting and journalism. He and Louise lived in Provo, Wilson, Clearfield, and then in Clinton for the last 58 years.

Over the span of his life, Gary held many jobs. He worked at Job Service (now Workforce Services) for 33 years, at the Post Office, as a DJ, as a locksmith and glazier, and as a notary. He also served as the mayor of Clinton from 1974 to 1980. But his real love was music. For many years, he sang and played almost every stringed instrument with his brother, Bob. He sang with the Men of Song for eleven years, where they performed at many venues including care centers and nursing homes.

When he wasn’t performing for strangers, Gary sang for his family. It wasn’t a family dinner without a rendition of Tradition, Margarine, If I Were a Rich Man, Pirates of Penzance, or Old Man River. He passed his sense of humor onto all of his kids, who share his love of music and movies, especially the Princess Bride.

Gary served in the Utah Army National Guard for ten years, then transferred to the U.S. Air Force Reserve and served for an additional 24 years. In 1990, Gary retired as a Lieutenant Colonel with many good memories and lifelong friends.

Church service was very important to Gary. Through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many callings including Ward and Stake Finance Clerk for 42 years and as a temple worker at the original Ogden temple for over eight years, including two years as the Coordinator for Group Three.

He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Venetta Bush; his siblings Lois Davis, Alta Taylor, Beatrice Smith, Josie Carlson, Vernona Parsons, and Robert Bush; his oldest son Charles Lawrence Bush; and his grandson Gerald Leon Fish. He is survived by his wife Louise Bush; his children Christine Lipsey (Lee), Bev Morford (Jeff), Richard Bush (Rachael), Vernon Bush, Elizabeth Fish (Matthew); seven grandchildren; his sister-in-law Raylene Bush; and many nieces and nephews.
