GERALD LEE CRANFORD
Sept 8, 1947 – Dec 26, 2016
Gerald Lee Cranford passed away at his home on December 26, 2016. Jerry was born in Placerville, CA, to Lovice and Mertice Cranford. He spent his days in the Sierra Mountains hiking, fishing, skiing, hunting and living a rich, happy childhood. He was a hotshot firefighter during the summer months, earning money to put himself through college at Chico State University.
Jerry had a love of the gospel of Jesus Christ and went on a mission to Paris, France, after college graduation. He met his one true love, Susan, at church in Fresno, CA. Six weeks later they were married in Reno, Nevada, in 1975. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple and were blessed with three wonderful sons, Clay, Matthew and Blake.
Jerry worked in the agricultural field for Britz Chemicals while in Fresno, but soon decided he wanted to spend more time with his family. He went to work for Pacific Bell, selling data communication services. Jerry and his little family later moved to Utah to pursue a career with AT&T.
Jerry continued his love the outdoors and hiking, backpacking, fly fishing and testing his survival skills. He loved doing genealogy work and he and Susan served eight years as Ordinance Workers in the Bountiful Temple. Later they served a service mission at the Kaysville Dry Pack Cannery. Jerry’s other great passion was playing golf with Susan and an ever-growing group of friends known as the Sandbaggers. These not-so-great golfers became a great source of laughter and joy to him.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 30, 2016 at 12 noon at the Kaysville Creekside Ward, 555 N. 100 East, Kaysville. According to Jerry’s wishes, there will be no viewing.
Arrangements are entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
