Gerald  Lloyd Flook

Gerald “Lloyd” Flook, age 77, passed away on March 8, 2017 at Mt. Ogden Nursing Home, Ogden, Utah, after a long illness.  Lloyd was born to LeRoy F. Flook and Bernice Hollar Flook on September 5, 1939.  On September 7, 1958 he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Mary Beth Jewett.

Lloyd grew up on a farm near Grand Junction, Iowa where he learned the values of hard work, thrift, and the skills needed to be an electrician, carpenter, plumber, and mechanic.  Lloyd could build or fix anything and used this ability to help others.  He raised prize Duroc hogs as an FFA project and it was the sale of these hogs that paid his way to the University of Iowa where he earned his BBA degree in l962.  Lloyd received his MA degree from Ball State University in 1975 and graduated Cum Laude with a BS degree from Weber State University.

Lloyd served 22 years in the Air Force specializing in supply/logistics.  He served in Florida, Virginia, Ohio, Thailand, Vietnam, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany before spending the last five years in Utah.  He retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1984.  His achievement awards include the Bronze Star medal, three Meritorious Serve medals, Outstanding Unit award, National Defense Service medal, Vietnam Service medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship ribbon, Vietnam Gallantry Cross to name a few.  Lloyd’s military education honors and achievements included Air Command and Staff College, Squadron Officer School, Supply Management School (honor grad.), and Automated Systems Analyst Course (honor grad.).  He was selected outstanding supply officer for four years by the Air Force.  After his retirement from the Air Force Lloyd was an elementary school teacher in Davis County specializing in social studies.  Lloyd served as a volunteer tour guide at the HAFB Aerospace Museum for 15 years.  He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, traveling, camping, and was an avid fisherman.  Cribbage, bridge or pinochle games with friends gave him many hours of pleasure and he remained a loyal Iowa Hawkeye sports fan all his life.

Lloyd is survived by his wife and son, Kent (Lori), grandchildren, Raelyn Pratley, Chance Pratley, Demi Summers, Taylor Pratley of Boise, Idaho, three great grandchildren, sister Peggy Cronin of Moulton, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.  Interment and services will be held in Jefferson, Iowa at a later date.

The family wishes to thank Dr. H. Johnson and all his staff, McKay-Dee infusion staff and A Step Forward hospice team for their care and compassion.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield, Layton, Utah.
