Gerald Lamar Hurst

Gerald L. “Jerry” Hurst passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 of natural causes.

He was born April 12, 1930 to Leonard J. and Flossie Miller Hurst. He was raised in Ogden and lived in Sunset and Roy, Utah. He graduated from Ogden High School and attended Weber State University.

Jerry served in the Utah National Guard for ten years.

He worked as a machinist for Southern and Union Pacific Railroads for 20 years and was the plant manager for National Service Corporation Days Company. He also owned and operated The Wear House Clothing stores.

On November 19, 1954, Jerry married the love of his life, Marilyn Davis in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for time and all eternity. After 62 wonderful years of marriage, Marilyn passed away in May of 2017 and Jerry missed her immensely and now they are together again.

He was a life-long member of the LDS Church and held in many callings. He read and studied Church history and served in a Stake Mission. He loved working with his hands doing carpentry and always helped his children when they needed some dry wall work.

He also loved vintage cars; entering his cars and loved attending Logan’s Run every year. He also enjoyed fishing and was an excellent fly fisherman, square dancing and camping. Jerry will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his children and spouses, Shane and Debbie Hurst, Michael and Margaret Hurst, Lisa and Frank Champlin; five grandchildren; a brother, David (Marsha) Hurst; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; son, Douglas; brother, Keith; and parents.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Peachtree Assisted Living and Hospice care.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. The family will meet with friends on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
