Gerald Russell Loertscher
1935 - 2014
Our dear father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was reunited with his beloved wife, son, and love ones, February 9, 2014 in Salt Lake City.
Gerald was born August 15, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Frederick H. Loertscher and Theresa Wozab Loertscher. Though Gerald was raised and spent most his life around the Salt Lake area, he loved to travel and had opportunities to explore interesting areas of the U.S. and Europe. Gerald served in many calling within his church, including an LDS mission to the Netherlands. He was sealed to his devoted wife Clara LaReeta Loertscher September 9, 1960 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they were the parents of seven children Jeffrey, Russell, LaMonte, KayLynn, Jaylene, Sheldon (passed away), and Dawnell. LaReeta passed away March 18, 2005. They also cherished their 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Gerald is survived by his sister Bonnie, and his two brothers Dennis, and Steve.
He worked as civilian employee of Hill Air Force Base (HAFB) for over 34 years in varying occupations from airplane mechanic, electronic technician, computer specialist, safety officer, and etc. He was a graduate of Granite High School and received an associate’s degree from Henagar’s College in Ogden while working for HAFB. Our father was a hard worker and very resourceful. He often tried to instill in his child these same values.
Our father had the great ability to create friendships. One such lasting friendship was with his wife. They were more often found together holding hands, talking about their family and the important issues of their life. Those who met him always came away from the experience better for it. We will always cherish the fond memories provide by this great man.
We wish to thank all that have cared for our father during his declining years. There compassion and patience is recognized and greatly appreciated. We often saw the extra effort provided and want you to know it didn’t go unnoticed.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 14, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Layton LDS Windsor Meadow Ward, 2800 West Gordon Ave, Layton, UT.
