Gerald R. Thomson passed away quietly and peacefully Friday, January 22, 2016 at his home in Layton, UT at the age of 86. He was born on May 22, 1929 in Randolph, UT to Hyrum and Mildred Thomson. Gerald met JoAnne Hill at a dance in Randolph and they were married November 19, 1953 in the Logan Temple.
Gerald was a faithful and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He faithfully served an LDS mission in the Northern Western States. He also served in the Army. He was very happy that he was able to serve his Heavenly Father and his country which he loved. He served in many positions in the Church. He loved the Boy Scouts of American and received the Silver Beaver Award for his service.
Gerald retired from HAFB as a Civil Engineer. He loved watching old movies and especially enjoyed watching the Jazz play basketball and BYU football. Dad has lived a full life of service to his family and church. The last three years have been difficult for Dad and Mom because of his health. We are glad his suffering has come to an end and are comforted in knowing it just brings a new beginning, a new journey for Dad. We will miss you Dad, but we know we will meet again.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Jay, Roy and Eugene Thomson, and his son, Jay Bradford Thomson. He will be remembered and loved by his wife JoAnne, three children and spouses: RaeAnn (Marcus) Blood, Gerald (Janita) Thomson, Alan (Aleesa) Thomson; and loved by his 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Frank Thompson, Vernal and Glen Thomson, Randolph.
