Geraldine Johnson Hansen
March 5, 1925 ~ August 21, 2022
Geraldine “Gerry” Johnson Hansen passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022. She was born March 5, 1925, in Fielding, Utah to Amanda Weaver Johnson and Marcellis Busenbark Johnson. They had three children, Marcene, Geraldine, and Elwin. Her older sister Marcene died at the age of six months in 1923. Her beloved brother, Elwin was her best friend, and they shared many happy times growing up in Box Elder County and throughout their lives.
After graduating from Bear River High School in 1942, Gerry met and married Wade John Monsen, November 6, 1943. She had been married 10 months before Wade was killed in WWII when his plane was shot down over France. She was three months pregnant with her first child Johnny Wade, who was born on her birthday.
Gerry met Dee Ras Hansen on a blind date that was set up by Dee’s sister. Gerry said, “that it must have been love at first sight” as he accepted John and I and we got married six months later on March 8, 1946”. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple on December 2, 1948. Dee and Gerry had three more children, Jill, Robert, and Marilyn.
Along with raising a busy family, she worked in the Home Economics Department of Mountain Fuel and gave cooking demonstrations. She then began working for Bell Photography where she made many great friends during the many years she worked there. She loved going to the schools to help the kids get ready for their pictures. She slicked back many cowlicks, turned shirts inside out so stains wouldn’t show, and loved every minute of it. Many thanks to the Bell family for their kindness and support of our Mom during her life.
Gerry was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and showed her love for the Savior through her endless acts of kindness. She was always making something, whether it was baked goods, crocheted baby blankets or beaded night lights. She shared her many talents with all those around her. Gerry and Dee served a mission in Ventura California in 1985 and later served a mission at the Ogden Tabernacle. She served as Primary Chorister, Junior Sunday School Chorister, Councilor in the Mutual Presidency in the 27th Ward and Stake Mutual Presidency in the Weber Stake. She was Homemaking Leader for the Weber Stake and in her ward. She loved leading the music in Relief Society in the Spring Canyon Ward and would always have the sisters sing “Love One Another”. Her testimony of the Savior burned strong throughout her life and she was a great example to her friends and family.
Gerry loved to sing and dance. She tells of the time that she got kicked out of a church dance as a teenager for doing the Jitter Bug. She sang in a trio for many years and always sang in the church choir. Gerry had a beautiful alto voice. Gerry and Dee loved to square dance. They had a long-standing date every Saturday night to go square dancing with the Whitney Whirlers. Gerry also loved to golf. She and Dee made many great friends through both dancing and golfing.
Gerry spent the last couple of years at Avamere at Mountain Ridge Assisted Living Center and made many great friends there. We wish to thank the residents and staff for their kindness to our Mom.
Gerry is survived by her four children, John (Anne) Hansen, Pleasant View, UT; Jill (Kriss) Dow, South Ogden, UT; Robert Hansen, North Ogden, UT; Marilyn (Scott) Banasky, St George, UT. They have 18 grandchildren and 72 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dee Ras Hansen; her parents, and her siblings, Marcene Johnson and Elwin Johnson.
Gerry will always be remembered by her family for her many funny sayings, her great cooking, making and giving hundreds of meals to friends and neighbors, and her love of the Savior. She will be missed, but we know that she is finally reunited with Dee, never to be separated again, and is dancing and singing in Heaven.
We love you Mom.
