Geraldine “Jerry” Francis Randall

October  20, 1928 – October 13, 2017

Early in the morning of October 13, 2017, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend peacefully passed away in her sleep.

Jerry was born on October 20, 1928 to Richard R. and Viola Fry Francis.  She was the eldest of two children.  She was raised in Morgan, Utah where she attended Morgan High School and was an excellent student.  She played the bassoon, accordion and performed in the marching band.  While attending Morgan High she met her eternal companion, A. Kent Randall.  They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 15, 1947, and celebrated 70 years of marriage this year.

After Kent finished his years of service in World War II and the Korean War, he and Jerry moved to Layton, Utah where they raised five children.  Jerry was devoted to her family.  She was always there to help with school work, piano lessons and anything else her family needed.  She spent her life setting an example of service to others and was always taking meals into friends and relatives who were in need.

She loved gathering the family around her and delighted in teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to her children, grand children and great grandchildren.  She leaves behind an eternal legacy of faith, obedience and endurance.  Jerry loved her savior, Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  She served in many capacitates within the church which include, Counselor in a Stake Relief Society Presidency, Relief Society Teacher, Young Women’s leader, Visiting Teacher and as a Choir Director for many years.

She was a talented writer and wrote many cantatas for special Easter and Christmas programs, which are fondly remembered by many of the people in the Layton area.  She also served a mission with Kent in Murray, Kentucky.  She was frightened to serve a mission , but she wanted her grandchildren to know of her obedience to the Lord.

Jerry was preceded in death by her parents and two of her children, Dana Randall Buxton and Gregory Thomas Randall.  She is survived by her husband Kent, and three children, Steven K. Randall (Kathy), Dallen Webb (Kerry) and Tamara Shaw (Pat), 22 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, as well as her younger brother Richard Dee Francis (Caroldyn).

The family wishes to thank Jerry’s loving care givers, Suzy Motuliki and Soa Maumalanga who have taken such good care of her during her final years.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday October 17, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Layton 6th Ward Chapel, 1402 N Fort Lane, Layton, Utah.  Friends may visit with family of Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd and Tuesday 9:30  to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
