Gerald “Jerry” Samuel Girardo

Gerald S. Girardo, 69, of Clearfield, Utah, passed away peacefully following a brief illness on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 12th, 1947, in Ogden, Utah, the first child of Eugene and Jeannine Girardo.

Jerry married his soulmate Betty Girardo on July 11, 1966, in Roy, Utah. Jerry and Betty moved to Sunset shortly after he started his career at Hill AFB where he retired after 38 years of Civil Service. In 1986, they relocated to Okinawa, Japan, where they spent 9 years. While in Okinawa, he enjoyed scuba diving, karaoke and spending time with family and friends at the beach.

Jerry’s life passions included dancing, bowling, camping, fishing, kayaking and being a past President of the Roy Eagles.

After retirement from HAFB, he spent 10 years working in major sales at Costco where he loved meeting people. Jerry made numerous friends there that he was fond of and kept in contact with after retiring.

Jerry is survived by his brother Dave (Debbie) Girardo of Harrisville, children Dianna McClintock of Clearfield, Sheri (Devin) Ellis of Clearfield, Jimmy (Nikki) Girardo of Roy, and Jerry Girardo of Clearfield, 8 grandchildren: Shayne McClintock, Tyler McClintock, Trevor McClintock, James Taylor Girardo, Sidney Girardo, Jeremy Ellis, Travis Ellis and Spencer Ellis, 5 great grandchildren and countless friends.

Preceded in death by parents Gene and Jean Girardo, brother Ronald Girardo, sister Patricia Bennett and the love of his life Betty Jean Girardo.

The family would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to the staff at McKay Dee Hospital Emergency Room and the University of Utah Neuro Critical Care Unit for all of the loving care provided to Jerry.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
