OGDEN a€" Gilbert Lee Barker, 73, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2008 of a chronic medical condition.

He was born December 7, 1934, the son of Charles Newman and Elizabeth Howell Lee Barker.

Gil married Beverly Jean Smith on December 2, 1954. They later divorced. He married Sandra Kay Hadley on February 2, 1993 and they later divorced.

Gil was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was employed with Wonder Bread for 37 years.

Gil enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, boating, camping and hiking. Gil was a man of many trades always offering a helping hand with anything or any project needing done. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Gil is survived by four children, Shar Branz, Ogden; Keith (Shelly) Barker, Ogden; Kent Barker, North Ogden; Karen (Troy) Deschamps, North Ogden; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Gil also leaves behind two brothers, Ruel Barker and Vern Barker, and two sisters, Lorraine Arvonen and Arlene Cole.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at McKay-Dee Hospital and Heritage Park Care Center as well as Inspiration Hospice for their care and compassion they gave to our father and family.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd.

Friends may call at the mortuary on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
