Glade Palmer

Glade Merlin Palmer passed from this life peacefully on July 5, 2019 while residing at the Heritage Park Care facility in Roy, Utah.  He was born May 21, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Merlin Clyde Palmer and Elna Hart Palmer.  He was their second of seven sons.

Glade lived all his childhood years in Salt Lake City on Lambourne Avenue and culminated his early school years graduating from Olympus High School.  He served an LDS mission to Australia and attended college at Utah State, Weber State, finally graduating from BYU in 1973 in Youth Acculturation.  He married Sherri Bailey in the Salt Lake Temple on January 21, 1971.  (They divorced 24 years later).  They were the proud parents of six children whom they raised in their family home in Layton, Utah.  Glade worked for the Boy Scouts of America as a scout executive to the Uintah County Area from 1974-1977, then worked at Hill Air Force Base as a Jet Engine Mechanic until 1992 when he was forced to go on disability for medical reasons.  He served in military capacities both in the National Guard and in the U.S. Air Force Reserves for a total of 19 years.

Glade was known for his witty sense of humor and how he always loved to attack new projects with a passion.  He invented tools for his job while at Hill Field and also was known to invent better ways and tools for doing things at home as well.  He had at least 10 inventions that he had submitted to an invention firm.  He loved hiking and fishing and was an avid reader and journal writer.  He also wrote wonderful poems and essays about religious topics and other things that he was passionate about.  He had a real “car fetish” and especially loved Corvettes and was fortunate enough to get to own one for a few years during his lifetime.  Another thing that we will miss about Glade are his funny “Gladeisms” like “the weather guessers” (for weather men) and calling a friend who he didn’t get to see often “the phantom” and his famous, unique in all the world “Glade Jig”.
He is preceded in death by his father Merlin Clyde and his mother Elna Hart, his older brother, Grant, and daughter-in-law, Tia Cornelius.  He is survived by his six precious children; Tina (Dave) Mitchell, Erick, Jenny Clarke, Tara (Brian) Mann, Heather Knight, and Steven.  He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; Brenden (Kindra), DeShawn, Liberty, Jayden, Damian, Kai, Jordan, Isaac, Colby, Jonas, Daxton, Ciera, Kruz, and Lincoln and three great-grandchildren, Samara, Brooklyn, and Samantha.  He is also survived by five brothers, Wain, Rob, Dave, Jeff, and Phil.

A memorial services will be held Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Farmington Willow Bend, 980 Shepard Church Dr., Farmington.  Friends may visit family Saturday from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.

The family wants to extend sincere thanks and appreciation for the caregivers at Heritage Park Rehabilitation Center in Roy who tended patiently and tirelessly to Glade’s needs in his final year of life.
