Gladys “Sam” Stitt Dover
OGDEN – Gladys “Sam” Stitt Dover, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and sister, returned to the arms of her Heavenly Father on Friday, November 9, 2007 due to respiratory complications.
Gladys was born in Ogden on May 3, 1936 where she remained for most of her life.
Gladys married her best friend, Bryce Lamar Dover, on August 27, 1960 and again on August 26, 1995, when they were joined as eternal companions in the Ogden LDS Temple.
During her teenage years she worked as a carhop at the Riverdale A & W. She later worked for, and retired from, Hill Air Force Base in 1970.
Gladys was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving as Primary secretary, Visiting Teacher and in many other callings. Despite her battle with illness, she remained faithful to her Father in Heaven.
Sam’s fiery personality and deep sense of humor provided great joy to her family throughout her life. She enjoyed traveling with her family, quilting, camping, riding ATV’s and doing her puzzle books. Her unending playfulness earned her the appropriate nickname “happy bottom”, and is a legacy that continues on with her children and grandchildren. She taught those around her of the power of laughter and that will never be forgotten. Beyond the laughter, Gladys was best known for her tenderness, compassion and her boundless capacity to love those around her unconditionally.
Gladys is survived by her loving husband Bryce; three children, Linda (Greg) Dunn, South Ogden; Alan (Mary Jane) Dover, Houston, TX; and Cate (Darrell) Burrows, West Haven; her stepchildren, Marianne (Gary), Idaho Falls, ID; and Todd Dover, Ogden; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are her siblings, Don (LaVonda) Stitt, Bill (Bonnie) Stitt, Myrlene Hubble, Paul Stitt and Kevin Stitt.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
