Gladys Hutchinson

Gladys Adelaide Lewis Hutchinson

Our mother, Gladys Hutchinson, an elegant and elect lady, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009, the same way she lived, peacefully and lovingly. She lived a long, full mortal life with a husband and family that she adored and oh, how her husband and family adore her. Gladys was born in Evanston, Uinta, Wyoming on November 18, 1914 to Fredrick Robert Lewis and Mary Wilhelmina Danielson. She was one of six children; brothers Bob, George, and Alfred, and sisters, June and Kate. All are rejoicing in her return to them in heaven. Gladys graduated from Evanston High School and received a teaching degree from the University of Wyoming. She spent many years teaching in one or two room schoolhouses throughout southwestern Wyoming, riding on horseback to and from school, often in Wyoming blizzards. She regaled her children with tales of teaching adventures and mischievous students. She loved learning, history, literature, poetry, children, music, and life. She married Glenn Robert Hutchinson, a rancher from Hilliard, Wyoming, on June 3, 1941. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple May 28, 1943. She began her marriage helping raise Glenn''s younger twin brothers, Harold and Harvey, and caring for Glenn''s widowed father, Abraham. Harold and Harvey always sang her praises and were loyal and loving to her. Gladys loved to bake. She is famous for her Christmas steamed puddings, sweet cream raisin pie, chiffon pumpkin pie, and beef pies. She was prolific in handwork, making quilts, crocheted afghans, embroidered tablecloths, pillows, dolls, and more. In her own way, she was a gifted artist. She cared for her ailing parents for many years, was an organist and teacher in the LDS church, volunteered in the schools of her children, wrote family histories, took in boarders, and cooked large delicious meals for them, haymen, sheepshearers, and family. She taught her children early to love our Savior, God, family, service, and others. Her creed was one of patience and kindness. Her sense of humor was her signifying characteristic. In 1959, Glenn and Gladys moved their family to Bountiful, Utah. She graduated from LDS Business College and worked as a bookkeeper for JCPenney for many years. She loved her associates there. She was an active member of Bountiful Business Women.

Glenn and Gladys are the parents of four children: Mary Edith (Art) Timothy, Glenna (Larry) Grandia, Bob (Linda) Hutchinson and Van (Laurie) Hutchinson. They are blessed with numerous and righteous posterity including 19 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Todd Hutchinson, and great grandson, Todd Timothy. Nothing brought Gladys greater joy than to be with and rejoice in the accomplishments of her family. While health issues restricted Gladys for the last 15 years of her life, she was a model of one who cheerfully accepted and loved her life. Her dedicated husband, Glenn, served as a loving supporter and principle care-giver this entire time permitting her to live out the last five decades of her life in the Bountiful home she so loved. Glenn and Gladys celebrated their 68th Wedding Anniversary with all their children just days before her death. Funeral services will be held 11 am Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Bountiful 24th Ward Chapel, 720 E. 550 N. Friends may call from 6-8 pm Thurs. June 11th at Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. and 10:00 a€" 10:45 am at the church prior to services. Graveside services and burial will be held at 3pm in Evanston, Wyoming City Cemetery. Condolences may be shared at www.lindquistmortuary.com
