Gladys Manwaring Lloyd

Our dear mother, Gladys Manwaring Lloyd, 96, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2013, in Clearfield, Utah. Mom was born June 27, 1916, in Rexburg, Idaho to Hyrum and Bessie Bird Manwaring. She attended Ricks College, where her father was the President for 14 years. She was her class Salutatorian. She graduated with high honors from BYU. She met Homer S. Lloyd, from Logan, Utah in Washington DC. They were married March 1, 1941, and sealed October 6, 1941, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. In 1945 they moved to Logan, Utah where they raised their four children and established Logan Refrigeration Co. Mom was the accountant for over 40 years. She wrote a newspaper column about flying and a history of flying in Cache Valley. She also wrote a book about their own flying experiences in their private plane.

Mom enjoyed swimming, tennis, music, writing, sewing, gardening, golfing, quilting, reading and playing the organ. She spent many hours writing family histories, gathering genealogy and making scrapbooks for each child. She was admired by many and made many deep and lasting friendships. She was always steady and wise, a "classy" lady.

An active member of the LDS Church, she served in the Young Women program and as Stake Relief Society Secretary for over 19 years. After they moved to St. George, Homer passed away in 1988. Mom kept busy volunteering at the Family History Center and at the hospitals. She moved back to Logan in 1996 and to Layton, Utah in 2003 where her daughter, Janet, and son-in-law lovingly cared for her until she moved to Chancellor Gardens Assisted Living. Everywhere she lived she attracted people with her good spirit and kind heart. She kept her keen sense of humor and kept current on family, world events and the Utah Jazz. She was particularly proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family expresses thanks to her ward members, visiting and home teachers, the loving caregivers at Chancellor Gardens Senior Living, Hearts for Hospice and Laurie Lovato.

She is survived by her children; Phillip Homer (Johanna) Lloyd of Dallas, Texas; Janet (Larry) Grant of Layton, Utah; JoAnne (John) Williams of Logan, Utah; and Stanford Thomas Lloyd of Ogden, Utah; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Logan City Cemetery, Logan, Utah at 3 p.m..
