Gladys Cook Mulford, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on November 3, 2015 from causes incident to age.
She was born on October 3, 1924 in Syracuse, Utah to Rudolph and Martha Ann Day Cook. Gladys was the youngest of seven children and learned the value of hard work at an early age on her family’s farm. Her meticulous yard was a testament to her strong work ethic – having won multiple beautification awards from Syracuse City for her outstanding gardens and landscaping. Gladys was an amazing cook. Many came to her home for the food and stayed for the conversation. They never left hungry. Whether she was throwing strikes from the mound or at the bowling alley, Gladys was a fierce competitor and was often called upon to sub for teams and leagues well into her later years. Gladys won countless bowling tournaments and trophies. Many trips to “K-Marts” and Wendover were funded by her senior bowling winnings.
Her competitive nature and love of the game did not compare to the love she had for her family. Gladys married Wilmer “Bill” Wayne Mulford on October 3, 1945. They were blessed with two daughters, Shirley and LaDawna. Bill and Gladys sacrificed many of their retirement years to raise each of their grandchildren in one way or another. Bill and Gladys also raised their great-grandson, Jeffery, as if he was their own.
Gladys is survived by daughters Shirley (James) Murphy and LaDawna (Scott) Clawson; son Jeffery Watts (Cristal); five grandchildren: Tina (Raymond) Adams, LeAnn (Kelly) Searcy, Marilyn (Ian) Reekie, Dustin (Jessi) Watts, and Jennifer Watts; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson and one great-great granddaughter on the way.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Raydolph, Ruth, Mark, Florence, Geneva and George, and her husband Bill.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. Friends may visit family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. on Saturday at the mortuary. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
