Gladys "Laura" Thompson

May 16, 1924 ~ September 7, 2016

Gladys “Laura” Thompson, 92, left us on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 to answer God’s call to come home.  She was born on May 16, 1924 in Elkhart, KS to John Baker and Gladys Graves also of Kansas.

On January 24, 1942, she married Lawrence F. Thompson in Sidney, Nebraska before he joined the Army.  They deeply loved each other the entire 48 years of marriage.

Laura worked for the Forest Service in Ogden, Utah.  Before transferring to the Dept of Defense where she worked as key punch operator, she retired on May 17, 1984.

After the passing of her husband in April 1990, Laura volunteered at the Ogden Regional Hospital for 19 years, giving more than 20,000 hours.  It was a job that she enjoyed very much.

Laura loved to read romance books and stories from the 1880s Mid-west.  She was a ruthless rummy and bingo player. Often winning most games word search puzzles were completed in minutes.  She was a very smart lady.

Laura is survived by her three children, Lawrence M. (Cheryl) Thompson, Jr., Castle Rock, CO; Linda (Grant) Gottlob, Roy, UT; and Leslie S. (Ellen) Thompson, Layton, UT; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Claryce Christiansen; daughter-in-law, Sharon Thompson and a son.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Canyon Road Assembly of God Church, 1390 Canyon Rd., Ogden, UT.  Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  and Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.  Laura will be laid to rest at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.

The family would like to thank Envision Hospice for caring for her; they cared for her as if she was their own loved one.  Lotus Park CNA’s for being there to watch over and care for her as well.

Never one for flowers, please make a donation to Meals on Wheels in her name.  She supported missions at Canyon Road Assembly of God Church in her memory.
